2013 Interior Design Trends and How Lighting Fits In

2013 Interior Design Trends and How Lighting Fits In

At the beginning of the year we saw Elle Décor’s Editor in Chief name the top interior design trends for 2013. We’ve certainly seen these trends surface in fun, creative ways… and of course, lamps are also marching to the same tune. Below are a few ways we’ve seen lighting manufacturers incorporating these trends.

Brass – The metal of the moment is brass and it has been steadily gaining traction in the industry, though for those who love antique accents it has never really gone away. Brass is quite versatile and can be used to accent a room with its use in accessories such as lamps. While brass is classic, it can be incorporated into contemporary settings in a fun way. Take for instance this brass chandelier incorporated into this beautiful interior below.

I also love these Feiss brass lamps. The one on the left embodies a brass gold finish and is perfect for a classic den. The other is plated with dark antique brass metal designed to reflect antique lights.

Green – We know color blocking is on-trend in the design space, which means rich, deep colors are adorning interiors around the country. Specifically Pantone announced Emerald Green as being their color of the year for 2013. While we absolutely adore Emerald Green, we love varying shades of green. Take these Arteriors lamps for example.  No matter what color palette you’re working with, these lamps can be incorporated in your interiors. These hues play well with nectarine, poppy red and lemon zest – great colors for summer.

Lace – Like brass, this fabric is back. Your grandmother’s old tablecloth is now in style. That said, this fabric can be a bit tricky for lampshades. We wouldn’t recommend canvasing an entire lampshade in lace but have seen some elegant lampshades with a hint of lace as the fringe. You can also look for lamps inspired by lace like this Feiss lamp below.
