Cone Lampshades
The cone or coolie shaped lampshades were inspired by the Coolie hats of Southeast Asia – a relatively small opening at the top of the lampshade and a wide bottom. There are several hardback lampshade cone or coolie styles, varying from very “flat”, or a short vertical height, to tall and narrow, where the height of the lampshade is greater than the diameter of the bottom of the lampshade. The hardback cone lampshade is constructed using a top ring and a bottom ring and the fabric is laminated to a hard plastic liner. The silk cone lampshades are made on a “frame” which consists of a set of inter-connected wires. The round top ring is attached to the round bottom ring by a series of vertical wires – which define the shape or style of the lampshade.
