Empire Lampshades
The empire lampshade is one of the oldest lampshade designs, and can be considered the “workhorse” of all lampshade styles. The empire lampshade is one in which the top diameter of the lampshade is about ½ of the diameter of the bottom of the lampshade; the style exhibits a straight, gentle slope from the top of the lampshade to the bottom of the shade. The hardback empire lampshade is constructed using a top ring and a bottom ring and the fabric is laminated to a hard plastic liner. The silk empire lampshades are made on a “frame” which consists of a set of inter-connected wires. The round top ring is attached to the round bottom ring by a series of vertical wires – which define the shape or style of the lampshade.
