The simple Silk Empire lampshade is one of the oldest lampshade designs, and is considered the “workhorse” of all lampshade styles. Over the years, the simple design of the Empire lampshade has served as the creative starting point for a wide range of design varitions – including the Silk Empire lampshade with a Gallery. A Gallery is a vertical design element added to the bottom of the lampshade which conforms to the shape of the bottom of the lampshade. The Gallery is about 1″ in height and can be made with either the same fabric as the body of the lampshade or, the Gallery can be covered in a different fabric, a different treatment (eg., a pleat) or a decorative trim. Dimensionally, the Silk Empire lampshade with a Gallery is similar to the traditional Silk Empire lampshade – the only difference being the straight vertical Gallery. Both Silk Empire lampshades are designed with straight lines from the top of the lampshade to the bottom of the shade or the bottom of the gallery. The Silk Empire lampshades with a Gallery are useful on a wide variety of table and floor lamps, most generally part of a traditional styled decor.
