Drum Silk Lampshades – Lime Dupioni Pure Silk

The Drum Silk lampshade is one of the oldest lampshade styles in use – in the same category as Silk Bell and Silk Empire lampshades. The name “drum” is an appropriate description for the shape of the lampshade – which looks to have the same sized openings at both the top and the bottom of the lampshade. In fact, most often, the diameter at the top of a drum lampshade is 1-2″ smaller than the opening at the bottom of the lampshade. Our eyes can deceive us! If the top and bottom openings are the same size, it appears that the top diameter is larger than the bottom diameter….hence the smaller measured opening at the top of the Drum Silk lampshade. The standard Silk Drum lampshade is still in use today – but is most often used to complement lamps in more traditional settings, whereas the Deep Silk Drum and the Cylinder Drum lampshades take us back in time to the 1950’s and 60’s.
