Creating custom lamps is one of our specialties at Concord Lamp and Shade and we’re always amazed at some of the items people bring in to transform into a beautiful lamp. From liquor bottles to candlesticks and beyond, we’ve seen it all. Perhaps one of the most interesting items as of late was brought in by Lauren Huyett, a brilliant local interior designer. She came in with an antique fire hose nozzle that she purchased at an antique sale. The hose is crafted from sturdy brass and leather and she believes it’s from the 1920s
After creating a wooden base for the fire hose nozzle, she brought the base and the fire hose in for us to do the electrical work. After adding the wiring and a perfect light gray bell lampshade, this once antique fire hose was transformed into an eye catching lamp. Not only does this lamp help beautifully light a room, but it serves as a great conservation starter when guests are over.
So many objects can be transformed into wonderful lamps. Whether it is preserving history or memories, or a fun object (like a fire hose, or an electrical meter, or a fireman’s boot), or adding a bit of color and interest to a room, custom lamp design is one area where art and function intersect!
