We work with a number of different lighting manufacturers, so it’s really hard to pick a favorite…but I definitely have a soft spot for New England-based Hubbardton Forge. The beauty of their wrought-iron lighting is like none other, and the quality of craftsmanship is impeccable. I love this company’s story. As they write on their website, “1974…It was the year of the Watergate scandal, The Sting was a box-office hit, and aspiring artists and entrepreneurs George Chandler and Reed Hampton fired up their first blacksmithing forge in a drafty old Vermont barn. With anvils, swage blocks, trip hammers and other tools from a bygone era, the two set out to revive the nearly forgotten craft of hand-forging raw metal into functional art. Their innovative designs became recognized for their simplicity and integrity. From these humble beginnings, one of the most respected brands in the industry was born.”
These folks have carried on their craft for all of these years, and continue to produce functionally ornate and distinct pieces time and time again. We recently stumbled across these behind-the-scenes photos on their Facebook page, and really think they speak well to just how much care and hard work they put into each piece. Next time you see one of their light fixtures in our store, or online, you’ll fully understand how it came to be, and have a better appreciation. We sure do!
